Karnataka Forms Expert Groups to Analyze Curriculum Gaps in Public Universities Against Global Standards
The Karnataka state government has constituted Subject Expert Groups for 29 core academic disciplines to conduct a comprehensive curriculum gap analysis of state public universities against top global institutions like Harvard, MIT, LSE, Peking University, and Tsinghua University. The initiative, led by the Department of Higher Education through the Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC), aims to identify structural, thematic, and pedagogical variances in curricula. The expert groups will evaluate curricula based on eight parameters, including curriculum development approaches, comparative content mapping, employability skills, and global teaching mechanisms. They will also map UPSC exam syllabus content currently absent from state university syllabi. A KSHEC official stated the current curriculum does not meet global trends, technological developments, or industry needs, and changes will be made based on the expert groups' reports.
