Jay Rodriguez and Andy Cannon Among Wrexham Departures as Contracts Expire
Wrexham AFC has confirmed that veteran striker Jay Rodriguez and midfielder Andy Cannon will leave the club this summer upon the expiration of their contracts. Rodriguez, a former England international turning 37, joined from Burnley 15 months ago and contributed to the team's promotion to the second tier, despite injury setbacks limiting his recent appearances. Cannon, 30, who scored 10 goals in 86 games since joining in 2022, has not played for Wrexham since a serious knee injury in February 2025 and recently completed a loan spell at Burton Albion. Alongside these senior departures, young players Reuben Egan, Callum Edwards, Tom Kelly, and Max Purvis are also leaving after failing to break into the first team. Conversely, the club has secured the future of homegrown talent by extending the contracts of defender Aaron James until 2027, as well as midfielder Alex Moore and forward Rio Owen. The announcements mark a significant squad reshuffle for Phil Parkinson’s side following their recent promotional success.
