JAGM-Armed Saildrone Surveyor USV Joins RIMPAC 2026
A missile-armed variant of Saildrone's 20-meter Surveyor unmanned surface vessel (USV) has joined the at-sea phase of Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026. The USV, designated SD-3001, features a custom Lockheed Martin launcher capable of firing four AGM-179 Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles (JAGM). This deployment marks a critical milestone in the U.S. Navy's push to field a hybrid fleet of crewed and uncrewed combatants in the Indo-Pacific. The Surveyor, designed for persistent maritime surveillance, can operate for months at sea. Lockheed Martin invested $50 million to integrate the launcher. A live-fire exercise with the JAGM-equipped USV is slated for summer 2026, aligning with RIMPAC activities. Alongside the Surveyor, sea drones from HavocAi, Leidos, and Splash Industries are participating, and unspecified UUVs will operate alongside nuclear attack submarines for target detection and tracking.
