JAGM-Armed Saildrone Surveyor USV Joins RIMPAC 2026
A missile-armed variant of Saildrone's 20-meter Surveyor unmanned surface vessel (USV) has officially joined the at-sea phase of Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026. The USV, designated SD-3001, features a custom Lockheed Martin launcher capable of firing four AGM-179 Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles (JAGM), marking a critical milestone in the U.S. Navy's push to field a hybrid fleet of crewed and uncrewed combatants in the Indo-Pacific. The drone departed Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, on July 8, 2026. Lockheed Martin invested $50 million to integrate the launcher, which can also be used for counter-unmanned aerial system roles. A live-fire exercise with the JAGM-equipped Surveyor is slated for Summer 2026. Other sea drones from HavocAi, Leidos, and Splash Industries are also participating in RIMPAC, alongside unspecified UUVs operating with nuclear attack submarines.
