Italy Evacuates 72 Palestinian Students from Gaza for University Studies
Italy has successfully evacuated 72 Palestinian university students from the Gaza Strip under a humanitarian initiative known as the 'university corridor.' Led by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, the program aims to provide these students with safe conditions to continue their higher education. The students are scheduled to arrive in Amman, Jordan, before traveling to Italy and San Marino. Of the group, 70 will enroll in 21 different universities across Italy, while two will study in San Marino. This latest operation brings the total number of students relocated from Gaza since September 2025 to 229, following previous transfers of 157 students. The Italian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this initiative reaffirms Italy's humanitarian commitment to Gaza's civilian population and supports their right to education amidst the ongoing conflict. The move highlights international efforts to mitigate the impact of the war on academic prospects for young Palestinians, offering them a concrete opportunity for safety and future development away from the destruction affecting educational infrastructure in Gaza.
