Italian Sports Journalist Luigi Esposito Found Shot and Burned to Death Near Naples
Italian sports journalist Luigi 'Luca' Esposito, 53, was found dead near Eboli, south of Naples, in the Campania region. His body was discovered riddled with bullets and burned on an agricultural field in the locality of Cioffi, identified thanks to his vehicle found nearby. Esposito was a well-known figure in local sports media, contributing to the daily La Città di Salerno, the channel Otto Channel, and serving as editor-in-chief of the specialized site Tuttosalernitana.com. According to initial investigation elements, he was killed by gunfire before his body was set on fire. The Salerno prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to determine the circumstances and motive. The European and International Federations of Journalists (EFJ-IFJ) called on Italian authorities to investigate a possible link between the crime and Esposito's journalistic activity.
