Ipswich Town Signs Dutch Goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen from Union Saint-Gilloise Until 2030
Premier League promoted side Ipswich Town has officially announced the signing of 26-year-old Dutch goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen from Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise on a contract running until 2030. Scherpen, who came through Emmen's youth academy, previously played for Ajax (winning Eredivisie and KNVB Cup), Brighton, and had loan spells at Oostende, Vitesse, and Sturm Graz (winning two Austrian Bundesliga titles and playing in Champions League group stages). In the 2025/26 season, he permanently joined Union Saint-Gilloise, making 43 appearances and winning the Belgian Cup. Scherpen has represented Netherlands U19 and U21 teams and was called up to the senior national team in 2022. He expressed pride in joining Ipswich and eagerness to prove himself in the Premier League. Manager Gary O'Neil called him a very important addition with extensive top-level experience. Scherpen is Ipswich's sixth summer signing for the 2026/27 Premier League season.
