Iowa Buys NCAA Tournament Court for Carver-Hawkeye Arena Installation

The University of Iowa athletics department has purchased the official basketball court used during the NCAA Houston Regional Elite Eight games to serve as the new playing surface at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. This acquisition follows a historic season for the Hawkeyes men's basketball team under head coach Ben McCollum, who led the program to its first Elite Eight appearance since 1987. The team's tournament run featured notable victories, including an upset against top-seeded Florida and a Sweet 16 win over rival Nebraska. The existing court, installed in 2016, is being replaced as part of its normal life cycle to ensure a high-performance surface for student-athletes and to provide a visual refresh for the venue. The new design will shift from a parquet layout to a modern, single-surface style while retaining a similar overall aesthetic. The university plans to preserve the old court and create commemorative memorabilia for supporters. Installation is scheduled to begin in mid-May, with floor arrival and installation set for May 18-21, followed by preparation and painting processes continuing through early June.
