Industry leaders urged to adopt life cycle assessment for global sustainability compliance
The Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Karur zone, M. Perumal, urged industry leaders to adopt life cycle assessment (LCA) practices to meet evolving global sustainability requirements. Speaking at a programme on 'India-UK CETA & Leverage LCA for Sustainable Growth' organized by the Textile Export Facilitation Centre (TEFC) in Karur, he highlighted the significance of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement for boosting exports, particularly for the Karur textile cluster. S. Balaji, Officer-in-charge of the Textiles Committee in Karur, noted that TEFC aims to enhance export competitiveness through training and capacity-building. V.N. Gowrisankar, Quality Assurance Officer, explained that the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) offers preferential tariff access to the UK, but exporters must understand Rules of Origin and compliance requirements to benefit fully. The event focused on helping Karur's home textile exporters leverage sustainability and trade agreements for growth.
