IFC Dispatches Team to Nigeria to Explore Livestock and Energy Investments
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has announced the immediate deployment of a team to Nigeria to identify scalable investment opportunities in the livestock, energy, and housing sectors. This development was revealed by IFC Managing Director Diop Makhtar during a meeting with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on the sidelines of the 13th Africa CEO Summit in Kigali, Rwanda. The announcement was confirmed in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. During the discussions, Makhtar praised President Tinubu’s economic reforms, specifically the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the foreign exchange market, describing them as courageous steps. President Tinubu emphasized the critical need for African nations to mobilize institutional capital, such as pension funds, to finance infrastructure and energy transitions. He highlighted that strengthening regional financial integration and improving energy transmission are essential for attracting private sector investment. The dialogue also covered strategies for leveraging local currency financing and partnerships with Nigerian financial institutions like Access Bank to enhance regional integration and address Africa’s broader development challenges through private capital mobilization.
