How 'Le Chant des Canuts' Became Olympique Lyonnais' Anthem Almost by Accident
This article, part of a series on fan chants, details how Olympique Lyonnais (OL) accidentally found its club anthem. For years, the club searched for an anthem at its former stadium, Gerland. In 2018, OL created 'Le Chant des Canuts' to promote its new museum at Groupama Stadium. The song was first played on the stadium screens 25 minutes before a match against Strasbourg on August 24, 2018. Fans recall that match for Martin Terrier's first goal and Nabil Fekir's return as a world champion, but the anthem's debut was a key moment. The chant, rooted in Lyon's historical silk-weaving (canuts) identity, was adopted organically by supporters, becoming the club's official anthem by chance.
