Highest-Paying Non-Medical Jobs in Every U.S. State Mapped
Business Insider analyzed Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data from May 2025 to identify the highest-paying jobs in each U.S. state, excluding doctors and nurse anesthetists. The analysis focused on occupations with at least 1,000 employees. Chief executives emerged as the top role in half of the states, including Texas and Pennsylvania. Various management positions topped the list in a dozen states, while pilots and flight engineers led in eight states. The article also includes career advice from executive search expert Matthew Siegel of Korn Ferry, who discusses common mistakes job seekers make in interviews, such as failing to explain career moves or ignoring gaps in qualifications.
