Hernan Crespo Appointed Coach of Atlas in Mexico Four Months After São Paulo Dismissal
Hernan Crespo, the 51-year-old former Argentine international, has been appointed as the new head coach of Mexican club Atlas, marking his first coaching role in Mexico. Crespo had been without a position since his dismissal from São Paulo in March, when the Brazilian club was leading Serie A after four rounds (now 8th). The Argentine coach previously managed Banfield and Defensa y Justicia in Argentina, and had two stints at São Paulo. His coaching achievements include winning the Copa Sudamericana with Defensa y Justicia in 2020, the São Paulo State Championship in 2021, and the Asian Champions League with Al-Ain in 2024. Crespo, who earned 64 caps and scored 35 goals for Argentina, played for several Italian clubs including Parma, Inter Milan, and AC Milan before retiring in 2012.
