Hanwha Aerospace and Milrem Robotics Partner for Romanian UGV Programme
Hanwha Aerospace and Milrem Robotics have formalized a strategic partnership to collaborate on Romania’s uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) programme. The agreement was signed on May 14, 2026, at the Black Sea Defense & Aerospace (BSDA) exhibition in Bucharest. Under this collaboration, Hanwha Aerospace Romania is expected to serve as the prime contractor, leveraging its local production capabilities for wheeled platforms like the Arion-SMET and upgraded GRUNT. Milrem Robotics will contribute its expertise in tracked UGV technologies, specifically the THeMIS platform. The partnership aims to deliver flexible, scalable solutions tailored to Romania's operational needs while strengthening the local defense industrial base. Prior to the signing, the companies demonstrated integrated Manned-Unmanned Teaming capabilities, simulating reconnaissance and logistics missions. This deal follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in February 2025 for joint development of robotic combat vehicles. The initiative highlights growing European cooperation in autonomous defense systems, with other manufacturers like Otokar also showcasing UGV solutions for the Romanian Armed Forces at the same event.
