Great Falls High Track Star Scarlet Harris Aims for Strong State Finish
Scarlet Harris, a junior track and field standout at Great Falls High School in Montana, is preparing for the upcoming state meet with high expectations. After qualifying for seven events last year, including a rigorous schedule that left little room for rest, Harris has refined her approach to better manage her time and mental focus. This season, she has qualified for six individual events: the 100-meter dash, high jump, long jump, 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, and the 4x100 relay. While she initially struggled with conditioning after the basketball season, her performance has peaked at the right time. Harris recently achieved season-best times in the 100-meter dash (12.74 seconds) and both hurdle events, notably shaving significant time off her 300-meter hurdles record. Her coach, Dave Kilian, emphasized patience during her transition from winter sports, noting that her hard work is now yielding results. Harris aims to build on her previous state podium finishes and continue her development as a versatile athlete with aspirations of competing in collegiate heptathlons.
