Google Confirms Googlebooks Will Support Intel, Qualcomm, and MediaTek Chips
Google has officially confirmed that its upcoming Googlebook laptop line will not be restricted to Intel processors. According to John Maletis, Vice President of Product Management for ChromeOS, the new devices will feature hardware from multiple silicon partners, including Intel, Qualcomm, and MediaTek. This strategic move aims to deliver powerful, AI-centric devices while maintaining high quality standards under the Google brand. Intel has already announced its involvement, highlighting its Core Series 300 "Wildcat Lake" processors, which offer enhanced performance and local AI capabilities suitable for budget-friendly yet capable systems. Unlike traditional Chromebooks, which prioritized low cost and battery life, Googlebooks are designed with an AI-first approach and deeper smartphone integration. Google is enforcing strict hardware controls on original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like Dell, Lenovo, and HP to ensure a consistent, premium user experience. The initiative represents a significant branding shift for Google, moving away from the limited perception of ChromeOS towards a more robust, intelligent computing platform.
