Global City Price Rankings: Zurich and Geneva Top List for Expensive Everyday Items
A Deutsche Bank Research Institute report analyzed the prices of over a dozen everyday items across 69 cities, tracking changes over 12 years. Zurich and Geneva, Switzerland, are the most expensive cities globally for items like coffee, cab rides, jeans, and Coke, driven by the strong Swiss franc. However, residents also enjoy high salaries and disposable income. New York and San Francisco remain among the top 10 priciest in many categories, but their relative dominance has faded due to slowing foreign investment. Tokyo stands out as an outlier with low prices, being the cheapest place to buy an iPhone and offering significantly lower rent and fast-food costs compared to other major cities, attributed to continued yen depreciation.
