LA Galaxy Sign Japanese Striker Kyōgo Furuhashi from Birmingham City
The LA Galaxy have signed Japanese international striker Kyōgo Furuhashi from Birmingham City, according to multiple sources briefed on the deal. Furuhashi, 5-foot-7, previously scored 63 goals for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, including a league-leading 27 in the 2022-23 season. He moved to Birmingham last summer for approximately €9 million but struggled in the English Championship, managing only one goal in 28 appearances. The 23-cap Japan international, who was not selected for the 2026 World Cup squad, will join the Galaxy immediately and will not occupy a designated player spot. The Galaxy, currently ninth in the Western Conference, recently sold winger Gabriel Pec to Cruzeiro for a club-record $12 million plus add-ons. Furuhashi aims to recapture his scoring form in MLS, with the Galaxy's leading scorer João Klauss expected to return from injury after the World Cup break.
