Fresh Reports of Detentions and Social Media Takedowns Emerge After CJP Protests
Following nationwide protests demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination irregularities and a NEET paper leak, new reports have emerged of police detentions and social media post removals. In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a 21-year-old protester was detained after being identified from a photograph, allegedly beaten in custody, and falsely accused of vandalizing a BJP member's vehicle. Police denied detentions but confirmed ten arrests. In Bhagalpur, Bihar, a 17-year-old boy was detained from his home at 3:45 a.m. on July 26, among 40 others arrested after protests turned violent. The Bhagalpur police stated the juvenile was produced before the juvenile justice board and that cases related to the violence are being withdrawn as per a state government assurance. Police are also withdrawing photographs of 155 individuals released based on CCTV footage.
