French Green MP Urges PM to Reconsider Asylum for Central African Wagner Whistleblower
Cyrielle Chatelain, leader of the Ecologist MPs in France, has written to Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu urging intervention in the case of Ephrem Yalike-Ngonzo, a Central African whistleblower who helped expose Wagner Group disinformation operations in the Central African Republic. Yalike-Ngonzo, who fled to France in 2024, was denied asylum in April on grounds that his prior participation in Russian propaganda networks disqualified him. Chatelain argues that denying protection to such witnesses undermines France's stated commitment to combating foreign interference. She highlights inconsistency in French policy, noting that Xenia Fedorova, former president of RT France, had her residence permit renewed for ten years. Yalike-Ngonzo worked under Mikhail Prudnikov, a key figure in Moscow's influence operations now under EU sanctions. He was initially brought to France with his family following President Emmanuel Macron's personal intervention.
