French authorities have permitted symptom-free passengers to disembark from the British cruise ship Ambition in Bordeaux, following a gastrointestinal illness outbreak. Initially, over 1,700 passengers and crew were ordered to remain on board after the vessel arrived in southwestern France. However, officials decided late Wednesday to allow unaffected individuals to leave. Laboratory analysis at Bordeaux University Hospital confirmed that norovirus, a highly contagious stomach bug, was the cause of the outbreak. Authorities emphasized that there is no connection to a separate hantavirus outbreak affecting a Dutch vessel, which has recently raised alerts among European health officials. No serious cases have been reported, and sick passengers are receiving care from the ship's medical team. The Ambition, operated by Ambassador Cruise Line, was midway through a 14-night journey from Belfast and Liverpool with scheduled stops in Spain and along the French Atlantic coast. It remains unclear if or when the cruise will resume its itinerary.
