Former NFL Super Bowl Champion Jordan Devey Dies by Suicide at 38; Family Suspects CTE
Former NFL offensive lineman Jordan Devey, a Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, has died by suicide at age 38, his family announced on July 25, 2026. The death occurred shortly before his 15th wedding anniversary. In a television interview with Fox 13, Devey's parents expressed the suspicion that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma common in football. Devey played seven seasons in the NFL, appearing in 44 games for the Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, and Buffalo Bills before retiring in 2021. He won Super Bowl XLIX with the Patriots but did not play in the final game. His wife Linsey paid tribute in a social media statement, calling him a hero. CTE is often diagnosed only after death and has been associated with numerous former NFL players.
