Former Brighton goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley joins Birmingham City
Newly-promoted Birmingham City have signed goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley as a free agent after she left Brighton. The 29-year-old returns to the club she joined at the age of six and where she made her senior debut in 2014. She has signed a two-year deal with an option for another year. After spells at Bristol City and Manchester United, Baggaley joined Brighton in 2023 and made 42 appearances. She was voted Brighton's player of the season in her debut campaign but struggled for game time after the arrival of Nigerian keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Baggaley has been a regular feature in England squads since 2025 but is yet to receive a senior international cap. Birmingham manager Amy Merricks said Baggaley will add real quality, leadership and competition to the goalkeeping group.
