Ford to Integrate Apple Maps Natively in Next-Generation Low-Cost EVs
Ford and Apple announced a major expansion of their partnership, moving beyond CarPlay to integrate Apple Maps natively into Ford's upcoming universal EV platform. The system will power built-in navigation, traffic data, EV route planning, battery preconditioning, and location-aware features like automatic garage door opening. It will debut in a $30,000 EV pickup expected in 2027. Crucially, Android users will not need an iPhone to use the system. Ford's Latitude AI subsidiary will also use Apple Maps road-level data to develop a next-generation hands-free driving system designed for seamless highway travel. This partnership contrasts with rivals: GM is phasing out CarPlay for its own Google-based interface, while Tesla and Rivian maintain proprietary software ecosystems.
