Filipino Educator Edison David Receives MBE Medal at Windsor Castle
Filipino educator and UK headteacher Edison David was honored with the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) medal by Prince William on behalf of King Charles III at Windsor Castle on May 13, 2026. Recognized for his significant contributions to British society through education, David described the award as a humbling experience that reflects the collective efforts of his colleagues and communities. During the ceremony, he wore a traditional barong from Lumban, Laguna, to proudly represent his Filipino heritage. David expressed hope that this recognition would inspire Filipinos globally and highlight their international contributions. Beyond his work in the UK, David is actively collaborating with the Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) to address the country's literacy crisis. He is helping pilot a bespoke phonics program and facilitate knowledge sharing between UK and Philippine schools to strengthen early reading foundations. His inclusion in the 2026 King’s honors list places him alongside other notable recipients such as Cynthia Erivo and Idris Elba, underscoring the diverse impact of individuals recognized for public service and community leadership.
