Fans raise funds for Kevin Keegan statue in Scunthorpe where his career began
Football fans are fundraising for a statue to honor Kevin Keegan in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, where the England legend began his professional career. Keegan, who died on July 20, 2026, at age 75 after a cancer diagnosis, made over 100 appearances for Scunthorpe United before moving to Liverpool in 1971. The Iron Trust, a supporters' group, is leading the campaign for what they call a 'fitting tribute' to 'King Kev.' Keegan won 63 England caps (31 as captain), two Ballon d'Ors, and numerous trophies with Liverpool, Hamburg, and others. He remained a devoted supporter of Scunthorpe, visiting the club as recently as December 2025. A book of condolence has been set up at the Attis Arena, where fans have gathered to pay respects. The proposed statue would commemorate Keegan's deep connection to the club that launched his glittering career.
