Erling Haaland tops World Cup social media follower gains, surpassing Vozinha
According to an analysis by Sportico, Norwegian striker Erling Haaland gained the most Instagram followers during the 2026 World Cup, increasing from 40.6 million to 72.7 million (over 32 million new followers). Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha, who went viral after a Brazilian platform encouraged viewers to follow him during a match against Spain, came second, jumping from just 30,000 to 29.4 million followers. The top 10 list includes Jude Bellingham (+12M), Cristiano Ronaldo (+11.4M), Lamine Yamal, Neymar, Lionel Messi, Mexican prospect Gilberto Mora (+6.6M), Michael Olise, and Endrick. Haaland scored 7 goals for Norway before they were eliminated by England in the quarter-finals.
