England goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley joins Birmingham City from Brighton
Newly-promoted Birmingham City have signed England goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley from Brighton on a two-year deal with an option for a third year. The 29-year-old returns to the club where she began her career at age six and made her senior debut in 2014. After spells at Bristol City and Manchester United, Baggaley joined Brighton in 2023, making 42 appearances and being voted player of the season in her debut campaign. She has been a regular in Sarina Wiegman's Lionesses squad since 2025 but is yet to earn a senior cap. Baggaley's playing time at Brighton decreased following the arrival of Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and she left at the end of her contract. Birmingham manager Amy Merricks praised Baggaley's experience and leadership, while Baggaley expressed excitement about giving back to the club that built her career foundations.
