Police forces in St Elizabeth, Jamaica, have intensified their road safety efforts by distributing 30 helmets to motorcyclists in Junction as part of a broader public safety initiative. Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the St Elizabeth police division, reported that while overall road fatalities have decreased from 14 in the corresponding period last year to 12 this year, motorcyclists remain disproportionately affected. Statistics indicate that 16 motorcyclists died in crashes in 2025, compared to 14 in 2024, with six motorcyclist fatalities recorded in St Elizabeth so far this year. In response to these trends, the police division is combining strict enforcement measures with increased public education. Officers have been tasked with engaging communities by speaking at schools, churches, and local meetings to raise awareness about road safety protocols. This dual approach aims to reduce the high number of fatalities among vulnerable road users, particularly those on motorcycles, through both regulatory compliance and community outreach.
