Dubai-based IT manager alleges humiliating Customs search at Kannur airport, seeks CM intervention
Husainar Mahshad, a Dubai-based IT manager from Kasaragod, has alleged that he was subjected to severe mental harassment and a humiliating body search by Customs officials at Kannur International Airport on July 19, 2026, despite no contraband being found. He claims he was taken to a separate room, forced to remove his clothes except his shirt, and had his private parts examined. After the search, he alleges airport staff laughed at him. Mahshad has filed complaints with the Chief Minister, Customs Commissioner, and human rights commissions, demanding an impartial investigation. He stated he chose Kannur over the closer Mangaluru airport to support Kerala's airport network, incurring extra costs. Customs Assistant Commissioner T.N. Sunil defended the search as routine and denied the allegations, citing the airport's sensitivity to smuggling.
