Dodgers Acquire Outfielder Alek Thomas from Diamondbacks for Jose Requena

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired outfielder Alek Thomas from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade completed on Tuesday. In exchange, the Dodgers sent minor league outfielder Jose Requena to Arizona. To accommodate Thomas on their 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment. Thomas, 26, was recently designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks following a challenging start to the 2026 season, where he batted .181 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 28 games. Despite his recent struggles, Thomas brings valuable postseason experience, having hit four home runs during the 2023 playoffs that helped lead Arizona to the World Series. His career statistics include a .230 batting average and 31 home runs over 448 games. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo expressed emotional difficulty in parting with Thomas, citing their long-standing relationship. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Jose Requena, signed by the Dodgers out of Venezuela earlier this year, has not yet appeared in a professional game for the organization. This move signals the Dodgers' intent to bolster their outfield depth mid-season.
