Denise Powell Wins Democratic Primary in Nebraska's 2nd District

Political organizer Denise Powell has secured the Democratic nomination for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District, a key battleground seat, according to NBC News projections. Powell narrowly defeated State Senator John Cavanaugh in a competitive primary that saw significant intervention from major outside political groups. Powell, viewed as the more moderate candidate, received backing from EMILY’s List and various congressional caucuses, while Cavanaugh, a progressive, was supported by labor unions and the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC. With approximately 90% of votes counted, Powell led with 39% against Cavanaugh’s 37%. She will now face Republican nominee Brinker Harding, an Omaha City Council member who ran unopposed in his party’s primary, in the general election. This race has garnered national attention as one of the Democrats' top opportunities to flip a swing seat this year.
