Delhi Lakshmi Yojana to roll out on August 28; women with more than three children ineligible
The Delhi government announced that the first instalment of the ₹2,500-per-month Delhi Lakshmi Yojana will be released to about 17 lakh eligible women on Raksha Bandhan, August 28. The scheme, a key BJP election promise, targets women aged 21-60 from families with annual income below ₹2.5 lakh and at least 10 years of Delhi residency. Exclusions include women with more than three living children, income taxpayers, government employees, GST return filers, families with annual electricity consumption over 2,400 units, and those owning a four-wheeler. Beneficiaries can choose between receiving ₹1,500 in a recurring/fixed deposit and ₹1,000 in a digital wallet (spendable only on permitted goods), or the full amount in an RD/FD. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated the scheme fulfills a promise made to women within a year of assuming office. The online application portal opens August 1.
