David Mazières: Stanford Professor and FinTech Advisory Council Member
This article profiles David Mazières, a member of the FinTech Advisory Council at the Milken Institute and a professor of computer science at Stanford University. He leads the Secure Computer Systems research group and co-directs the Center for Blockchain Research and the Future of Digital Currency Initiative. His research focuses on operating systems and distributed systems with an emphasis on security. Mazières is also a cofounder of the Stellar Development Foundation. He holds a BS from Harvard (1994) and a PhD from MIT (2000). His numerous awards include the NSDI Outstanding Paper Award (2024), NSDI Community Award (2024), ICFP Most Influential Paper Award (2022), Oakland Distinguished Paper Award (2015), Sloan Award (2002), USENIX Best Paper Award (2001), NSF CAREER Award (2001), and MIT Sprowls Best Thesis Award (2000).
