Dan Ives leaves Wall Street analyst role to launch AI-focused merchant bank Yorkville Ives
Dan Ives, a prominent Wall Street tech analyst known for his bullish calls on Apple and Nvidia, has left Wedbush Securities after 25 years to co-found Yorkville Ives, a 'modern merchant bank' with Yorkville Securities. In an interview with Fortune, Ives said the AI revolution enabled his career shift, embodying his long-held belief that AI creates more jobs than it eliminates. The new firm combines research, M&A advisory, debt and equity trading, and proprietary capital investment—a model Ives traces to 1990s merchant banks like Thomas Weisel. He identified a funding gap for mid-tier tech companies that are overshadowed by hyperscalers like Nvidia. Ives emphasized he will remain focused on research, maintaining a Chinese wall between advisory and research divisions. The move represents a personal shift from covering other companies to building his own, with a decade-long horizon.
