CSKA Sofia Fined by UEFA for Nazi Salutes During Europa League Match
UEFA has sanctioned Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia with a €50,000 fine for discriminatory and violent behavior by its supporters during a Europa League qualifying match against Derry City in Ireland. The incidents, which included Nazi salutes and attacks on Derry fans, caused a 15-minute delay to the kick-off. The match, which CSKA won 2-1, was marred by images circulating on social media showing a CSKA supporter performing a Nazi salute while Derry City fans unfurled an anti-fascist banner. In addition to the fine, UEFA banned CSKA Sofia from selling tickets to its supporters for its next away European match against Qarabag in Azerbaijan. UEFA also imposed a one-match suspended ban specifically related to the Nazi gestures. The sanctions reflect UEFA's zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination and violence in football.
