Coventry City to Sign Goalkeeper Carl Rushworth for Record £22.5 Million Fee
Multiple British media outlets report that Coventry City is set to sign goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion for an initial fee of £22.5 million, with the total deal potentially reaching nearly £30 million including add-ons. This transfer will break Coventry's club record, surpassing the £17 million paid for Aurele Amenda last week. Rushworth, 25, spent last season on loan at Coventry, keeping 17 clean sheets in 46 matches and playing a key role in the club's Championship title win and promotion to the Premier League. Brighton has included a high sell-on clause and a buy-back clause in the contract. Rushworth is expected to undergo a medical within 48 hours. Coventry manager Frank Lampard, who took over in November 2024 and signed a new contract this month, is working on additional signings. Coventry will play their first Premier League match since 2001 on August 21 away to Arsenal.
