Conservative MP Helen Grant to Stand Down at Next General Election
Helen Grant, the Conservative MP for Maidstone & Malling, has announced she will stand down at the next general election, expected in 2029. Grant, first elected in 2010, stated that after 19 years in Parliament, and following her recovery from cancer surgery and treatment in 2023-24, she believes it is the right time to pass the baton. She noted that her own selection in 2008 followed Ann Widdecombe's announcement to step down, allowing her nearly two and a half years to build her profile, and she wishes to give her successor a similar opportunity.
