Commonwealth Games: Sreeshankar wins second straight silver in long jump; Tajay Gayle takes gold
At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, India's Murali Sreeshankar won the silver medal in the men's long jump, successfully defending his runner-up finish from the 2022 Birmingham Games. The 27-year-old Indian recorded a best jump of 8.09m on his second attempt. Jamaica's former world champion Tajay Gayle clinched the gold with a decisive 8.15m jump in the fourth round, despite a season's best of 8.37m. Local favorite Stephen Mackenzie of Scotland took bronze with an 8.08m effort on his final attempt. India's Lokesh Sathyanathan finished fifth with a jump of 7.97m. The competition took place at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow on July 29, 2026.
