Commonwealth Games: Jadumani wins India-Pakistan boxing bout; Preeti one win from medal
At the 2023 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Indian boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam defeated Pakistan's Sumama Rehman via a unanimous 5-0 decision in a high-intensity men's 55kg round of 16 bout. The match was marked by patriotic chants from the crowd. Jadumani, an Army boxer, dedicated his victory to Kargil War heroes and expressed his goal of winning gold. In women's 54kg action, Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Pawar won her pre-quarterfinal against Malawi's Deborah Mtenje by Referee Stop Contest (RSC) in the second round, putting her one win away from her first Commonwealth Games medal. However, Indian boxer Aditya Pratap lost his men's 65kg opening bout to Uganda's Nuhu Batte by a 2:3 split decision.
