Commonwealth Games 2026: Lovlina Borgohain Assures India Its First Medal
Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has guaranteed India its first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 28-year-old Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist received a first-round bye in the women's 75kg event, which had only five boxers in the draw, automatically securing her a place in the semifinals and at least a bronze medal. Lovlina will face Tuvalu's TKBP Taafaki in the semifinal on July 31, with the winner advancing to the gold medal bout. This marks Lovlina's first Commonwealth Games medal, completing her collection of major multi-sport honors after previously winning medals at the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games, and Asian Championships. She now aims to upgrade her guaranteed bronze to gold in Glasgow.
