Collierville High Hires Erik Buggs as New Boys Basketball Coach

Collierville High School has officially appointed Erik Buggs as its new boys basketball coach, the institution announced on May 15, 2026. A Memphis native and former All-State player at Mitchell High, Buggs brings extensive coaching experience across AAU, high school, and collegiate levels. He most recently served as an assistant and interim head coach at Tennessee State University during the 2024-25 season. Prior to that, he spent three seasons as an assistant at Tennessee Martin, contributing to an Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championship in 2023-24. Buggs also has significant local experience, having served as associate head coach at Houston High School under Mike Miller during their 2020-21 state championship run, and previously held head coaching positions at Memphis Catholic and Kingsbury. He replaces Jarvis Stephen, who compiled a 21-37 record over two seasons. Collierville Principal Roger Jones praised Buggs for his passion, leadership, and commitment to excellence, expressing confidence in his ability to positively impact the program and community. Buggs’ playing career includes two Horizon League championships at Valparaiso, where he remains the all-time leader in games played, followed by professional stints overseas from 2013 to 2016.
