Clover Health hit with data breach

On July 4, 2026, the company discovered that a hacker had compromised the accounts of three employees through social engineering, potentially accessing members' personally identifiable information and protected health information. The affected employees worked on scheduling member visits and broker relationships, but did not have access to corporate financial or claims systems. Clover has contained the breach, notified law enforcement, and is investigating the scope of data accessed. The company, which has nearly 156,000 members across five states, does not expect the breach to materially impact its operations or finances. The incident highlights the ongoing cybersecurity challenges in healthcare, following major breaches like the 2024 Change Healthcare attack that affected over 190 million people and cost UnitedHealth $3.1 billion in recovery expenses.
