Chinese Passenger Arrested in Thailand for Damaging Airport E-Gates in Rage

A 30-year-old Chinese national, Zheng Liwei, was arrested at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok after violently damaging automated passport control gates. The incident occurred when Zheng mistakenly attempted to scan his boarding pass instead of his passport, causing the e-gate barrier to remain closed. Frustrated by the error, he slapped and kicked the glass doors open, triggering alarms. After being intercepted by security personnel, Zheng verbally abused staff and claimed the machine was malfunctioning. Authorities charged him with property damage and insulting officials on duty. As a result, Zheng faces up to three years in prison, substantial fines totaling over $13,000 for repairs, and additional penalties for his conduct.
