Charlton Athletic Women sign former Manchester United defender Charlotte Newsham to contract until 2027
Charlton Athletic Women have officially announced that defender Charlotte Newsham has signed a contract extension, keeping her at the club until 2027. The 26-year-old, who progressed through the academy systems at Manchester City and Manchester United, has spent the past two seasons with Charlton and established herself as a regular starter. She predominantly operates on the left side and can play as a full-back or in a more advanced defensive role. Newsham also made her senior debut for Scotland last season during a World Cup qualifying victory over Luxembourg, where she registered her first senior international assist. However, she suffered a serious knee injury against Birmingham City on the final day of the WSL2 season and is currently in early-stage recovery. Charlton will compete in the Barclays Women's Super League next season after returning to the top flight for the first time since 2008. Newsham expressed that her recovery has gone smoothly so far and plans to contribute as a leader during rehabilitation.
