CDA Abolishes 1,062 Vacant Positions in Islamabad Amid Austerity Drive

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) in Islamabad has officially approved the abolition of 1,062 vacant and redundant positions as part of a broader right-sizing and austerity initiative. The decision, formalized through a notification on May 6, 2026, follows approval from the CDA Board during its meeting in late April. The restructuring specifically eliminates 100 vacant posts for Stenotypists (BPS-14) and 962 vacant posts for Beldars (BPS-01), effective immediately. Officials stated that these positions had remained dormant for extended periods or no longer aligned with the authority's current technological and operational needs. This move aligns with the federal government's policy to reduce unnecessary public sector expenditure, improve administrative efficiency, and alleviate the burden on the national exchequer. By removing these dormant roles from the workforce structure, the CDA intends to optimize resource allocation and redirect funds toward priority urban development and infrastructure projects in the capital. To enforce this change, the CDA Board has directed amendments to the CDA Employees Service Regulation 1992, ensuring that future recruitment against these abolished posts requires fresh board approval.
