46 cadres of banned KCP(PWG) insurgent group surrender in Manipur
On July 21, 2026, 46 active cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP(PWG)], a Meitei insurgent outfit, surrendered at the Assam Rifles headquarters in Manipur. The cadres, aged 22-53, laid down 28 sophisticated weapons including AK rifles, INSAS rifles, and rocket-propelled grenade launchers, along with ammunition and explosives. Some were operating from Myanmar, others from Imphal Valley, primarily involved in extortion. The Ministry of Defence highlighted that this mass surrender is unprecedented for this faction, as none were part of prior peace agreements. The surrender resulted from weeks of outreach by Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and state government agencies, marking a severe operational degradation of the group's networks and territorial reach.
