Brooklyn Half Marathon Organizers Prepare for Extreme Heat Conditions
Organizers of the 2026 RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon are implementing extensive safety precautions as runners face potentially extreme heat conditions this weekend. With a forecasted high of 78 degrees Fahrenheit and a RealFeel temperature of 85 degrees, New York Road Runners have announced that the event will begin under a yellow flag status. This indicates moderate risk, urging participants to slow their pace and prepare for worsening conditions as the day progresses. The 13.1-mile course, stretching from Prospect Park to the Coney Island boardwalk, will feature ten fluid stations, fourteen misting stations, and ten medical stations equipped with ice. Additionally, iced towels will be provided at the finish line. Runners are advised to monitor their physical limits, recognize symptoms of heat illness such as dizziness and disorientation, maintain proper hydration and salt intake, and wear synthetic fabrics. The organizers utilize a color-coded flag system ranging from green (low risk) to black (extreme danger), which may halt participation if conditions become critical. These measures aim to ensure runner safety amidst the challenging environmental factors expected during the race.
