Body of New Zealand Monk Identified Month After Disappearance in Scotland

Scottish authorities have identified the body of 24-year-old Justin Evans, also known as Brother Ignatius, more than a month after he disappeared from a remote monastery on the island of Papa Stronsay. Evans, a native of Christchurch, New Zealand, had moved to Scotland to join a Catholic congregation focused on missionary work. His remains were discovered on May 6 near the Golgotha Monastery, close to the location where he was last seen on April 11. While police conducted extensive searches of the surrounding areas, Evans was eventually presumed dead by the Catholic Church. Authorities stated that the death is currently being treated as unexplained, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course. Evans is being remembered by his former rugby club, Marist Albion in New Zealand, as a talented and committed player who contributed to championship-winning teams. The incident has drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and subsequent discovery off the remote Orkney island, marking a tragic end to his religious journey abroad.
