Birmingham City sign goalkeeper Katie Startup on free transfer
Birmingham City have signed goalkeeper Katie Startup on a free transfer following her departure from Manchester City after her contract expired. The 27-year-old was part of the City squad that won the Women's Super League title and the Women's FA Cup in the 2025-26 season, though she did not make an appearance for the club after joining from Brighton in 2024. Startup joins newly promoted Birmingham City on a reported two-year deal as they aim to establish themselves in the WSL. She cited the opportunity to work again with manager Amy Merricks and director Hope Powell, with whom she spent four years at Brighton, as a key factor in her decision. Merricks praised Startup as a dedicated professional and a brilliant teammate who will bring valuable experience to the squad.
